2  And know ye this day: for I speak not with your children which have not known, and which have not seen the ^achastisement of the Lord your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm,

  26  And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the ^cend that they might know that I am the Lord.

  21  Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to ^achasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and their faith.

  21  Verily I say unto you, that I, the Lord, will ^achasten them and will do whatsoever I list, if they do not repent and observe all things whatsoever I have said unto them.

  8  In the day of their peace they esteemed lightly my counsel; but, in the day of their ^atrouble, of necessity they feel after me.

  34  When he ^aslew them, then they sought him: and they returned and inquired early after God.

  6  And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not ^breturned unto me, saith the Lord.

  7  When my soul fainted within me I ^aremembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

  17  Therefore, as they were unfaithful they did not prosper nor progress in their journey, but were driven back, and incurred the displeasure of God upon them; and therefore they were smitten with famine and sore afflictions, to stir them up in ^dremembrance of their duty.

  16  I also will ^ado this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

  20  If ye forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you ^bhurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

  7  And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he ^asold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.

  1  And the children of Israel did ^aevil again in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

  14  And the Lord stirred up an ^aadversary unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king's seed in Edom.

  13  ^aIf I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;

  13  And prayed unto him: and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then ^bManasseh knew that the Lord he was God.

  27  Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who ^bvexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.

  5  Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper; for the Lord hath ^aafflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the enemy.

  20  Behold, O Lord; for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously ^brebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.

  17  That they may want bread and water, and be astonied one with another, and ^bconsume away for their iniquity.

  12  Therefore shall Zion for your ^asake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

  15  And it came to pass that we were about to be swallowed up in the depths of the sea. And after we had been driven back upon the waters for the space of four days, my brethren began to ^asee that the judgments of God were upon them, and that they must perish save that they should repent of their iniquities; wherefore, they came unto me, and loosed the bands which were upon my wrists, and behold they had swollen exceedingly; and also mine ankles were much swollen, and great was the soreness thereof.

  23  And there was nothing save it was exceeding harshness, preaching and prophesying of wars, and contentions, and destructions, and continually ^creminding them of death, and the duration of eternity, and the judgments and the power of God, and all these things—stirring them up continually to keep them in the fear of the Lord. I say there was nothing short of these things, and exceedingly great plainness of speech, would keep them from going down speedily to destruction. And after this manner do I write concerning them.

  7  And it came to pass that the people saw that they were about to perish by famine, and they began to ^aremember the Lord their God; and they began to remember the words of Nephi.

  25  How oft have I ^acalled upon you by the mouth of my servants, and by the ministering of angels, and by mine own voice, and by the voice of thunderings, and by the voice of lightnings, and by the voice of tempests, and by the voice of earthquakes, and great hailstorms, and by the voice of famines and pestilences of every kind, and by the great sound of a trump, and by the voice of judgment, and by the voice of mercy all the day long, and by the voice of glory and honor and the riches of eternal life, and would have saved you with an everlasting salvation, but ye would not!
