16  But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his ^bprophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

  26  Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and ^cslew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.

  2  Then Pashur ^asmote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the Lord.

  20  And when the Jews heard these things they were angry with him; yea, even as with the prophets of old, whom they had ^acast out, and stoned, and slain; and they also sought his life, that they might take it away. But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance.

  6  But the more part of them did not believe in the words of Samuel; therefore when they saw that they could not hit him with their stones and their arrows, they cried unto their captains, saying: ^bTake this fellow and bind him, for behold he hath a devil; and because of the power of the devil which is in him we cannot hit him with our stones and our arrows; therefore take him and bind him, and away with him.

  2  And it came to pass that I said unto them that I knew that I had spoken hard things against the wicked, according to the truth; and the righteous have I justified, and testified that they should be lifted up at the last day; wherefore, the ^bguilty taketh the truth to be hard, for it cutteth them to the very center.
