1  And it came to pass that the Lord commanded me, wherefore I did make plates of ore that I might engraven upon them the record of my people. And upon the plates which I made I did engraven the record of my ^cfather, and also our journeyings in the wilderness, and the prophecies of my father; and also many of mine own prophecies have I engraven upon them.

  14  And I, Jarom, do not write more, for the plates are small. But behold, my brethren, ye can go to the ^bother plates of Nephi; for behold, upon them the records of our wars are engraven, according to the writings of the kings, or those which they caused to be written.

  14  Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a ^avapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

  15  For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a ^bshadow, and there is none abiding.

  4  Man is like to vanity: his days are as a ^bshadow that passeth away.

  23  And they are made known unto us in plain terms, that we may understand, that we cannot err; and this because of our being ^bwanderers in a strange land; therefore, we are thus highly favored, for we have these glad tidings declared unto us in all parts of our vineyard.

  36  Now if this is boasting, even so will I boast; for this is my life and my light, my joy and my salvation, and my redemption from everlasting wo. Yea, blessed is the name of my God, who has been mindful of this people, who are a branch of the tree of Israel, and has been lost from its body in a strange land; yea, I say, blessed be the name of my God, who has been mindful of us, ^dwanderers in a strange land.
